Beginner Bass Lessons
The key to any musical project is a solid rhythm section. The 20th century saw a massive change in the role of the bass, as the instrument moved from merely a member of the rhythm section to, in latter years, arguably the glue that holds a modern band together. While an orchestral or big band rhythm section consists of a number of instruments contributing to the wider harmony of the music, since the advent of small-band jazz the bass has moved from a supporting role to that of the harmonic leader of the section. Many of beginner bassists do not properly understand their place within a band, simply becoming another guitarist, leaving the band lacking low-end punch and rhythmic excitement. The bass part is the foundation on which many songs are built, and often the distinction between a good band and a bad one is in the hands of the rhythm section.

I have a passion for the Bass Guitar, studying under the direction of Alberto Santerelli and playing in several bands. Lessons are tailored to your specific goals and tastes, and I will work out with you exactly how you want to go about learning the bass. I will expose you to a wide range of styles and endeavour to expand your musical horizons.
I am focussing on beginner bassists because I believe that the best results are to be gained if students develop proper technique from day one, rather than having to work doubly hard later to un-learn already ingrained problems. I currently teach from a space in Howick, however I am also able to travel and can work with you at home for a minimal extra travel cost.
I get a huge amount of enjoyment from playing and learning the bass, and my goal is to assist other musicians in improving to meet theirs.
